How To Achieve A Glowing Skin Naturally & Keep it.
The Skin
This skin is the outer covering of the body and the largest organ . It is composed of three layers namely
Epidermis: The skin that's most visible to the human eye. It provides a waterproof barrier between our bodies and microbes & creates our skin tone.
Dermis: This is just beneath the outermost layer of the skin. It contains ligaments, hair follicles and sweat glands which permits the sensation of touch, heat and cold.
Hypodermis: It is the deeper subcutaneous tissue made up of fat and connective tissues.
The skin receives directly from the inner body & outer environment which is the reason why factors such as sun, diet, environmental pollution, aging, and most of all cosmetics' chemicals can diminish the body's ability to produce collagen. This slowly brings about a death of the skin in the form of wrinkle and other skin conditions.
Armed with knowledge this little yet vital, how can you help your skin keep looking healthy, smooth and alive at all times? Using my own routine, oh yeah! I have a routine (and it's not boring), I am going to show you 10 things you should do too to achieve the skin of your dreams.
Let's go there...
- Do light, regular exercises: Usually, I do between 20-30 skips and some stretches. Exercise has its way of opening up the skin in order to add life & color to it.
- Feed well: Eat proper foods, fruits and vegetables because your body's response to your skin is also largely based on what you feed it.
- Moisturize: This will keep your skin from drying out, giving it a soft feel. Invest in a good brand that's suited to your skin type. Did I hear you say "moisturizers darken my skin'? Actually, moisturizers don't darken your skin, it happens because you don't.... (check no 4)
- Wear sunscreen and sunglasses: Never mind that the weather seem cloudy, the sun is right beneath it as long as it is daylight. Sunscreen lotions and sunglasses offers great ways of shielding the skin of the body and eyes from the damaging effects of the sun's UV rays which is capable of causing skin cancer. Meanwhile, the fact that you are dark-skinned does not make you immune to it
- Exfoliate: There is a lot of stale oil having a pore clogging party on your skin so this is important. Great brands of scrub are out there, however, you could make yours using granulated sugar and any carrier oil of choice. Coconut oil and olive oil are easily and readily available in Nigeria. Combine oil and sugar at a ratio of 5:1 to avoid having a runny paste. Scrub entire body, caution not to use around eye, rinse off normally with regular soap and warm water. Your skin should be visibly clear immediately. And follow up with a moisturizer.
- Drink water: I know. I know. You have heard or read about this a thousand times, but for skin's sake, it works. Water hydrates the body, helps expel dangerous toxins and improves the overall health of the skin.
- Detoxify: Do this every once in a month. I detoxify by drinking a half glass full of the extracted juice of sweet basil leaves (efirin). Result? My body feels less heavier and my skin is renewed
- Cut out: Caffeine, processed sugar, white bread, cigarette and alcohol. All of these also stand between you and achieving a good-looking skin.
- Get a massage: Enjoy spa treat deep tissue massage every once in a while as it helps to increase blood flow in the right places and gives the skin a rich rosy look.
- Sleep well. You cannot underestimate the beautiful wonders getting good sleep can do for you. 6 hours to 8 hours is fine. And nap in the day when your body calls for it especially if you can (before dem go sack man pikin for work. lol)
With all of these, you have started the journey to achieving a glowing skin without compromising your overall health or bank account. What's more? You get to keep your skin that way for a long time.
Have a wonderful skin....
